Reflexology

Reflexology

I work specific points on the feet that correspond to organs & systems of the body to bring about harmony & balance in the body, which in turn brings about a sense of relaxation & well being.

What is Reflexology?

Modern reflexology is based on an ancient form of therapy. There is evidence of some form of foot and hand therapy being practiced in China as long ago as 4,000 B.C. and also at the same time in Egypt, as depicted in the tomb of Ankmahor.

Reflexology is the use of applied pressure using the fingers or thumbs to work specific reflex points and areas of the feet, hands, and ears. In reflexology it's believed that these areas and reflex points correspond to different systems and organs of the body, and by working these it activates the body's own healing ability, which in turn has a beneficial effect on the organs and person's general health, helping to restore balance and homeostasis. Reflexology is a complementary holistic therapy which can be used along side conventional medicine or on it's own. The benefits of Reflexology are enhanced by regular treatments - as the effects are cumulative.

What to expect during a reflexology treatment?

At the first appointment we will go through a medical health consultation form which will highlight any medical problems you have had in the past or present. I will also go through a detailed history on your diet and lifestyle. Reflexology is a holistic therapy, we look at the person as a whole in turn treating much more than just the presenting condition.

You will be asked to remove your shoes and socks and I will get you to lie on the treatment couch. At this point I will sanitize and visually assess your feet. The treatment will start with a few minutes of relaxing deep breathing techniques and a gentle warm up of the feet. Following this, precise movements using gentle but firm pressure, will be applied over the entire foot working on all the reflex points corresponding to the organs and systems of the body. During the treatment I will make notes on my findings and go through this with you at the end of your session. The whole process usually takes about an hour, however I like to allow at least 15mins to allow for the consultation at the start.

Who can have a reflexology treatment?

This therapy is open to all, adults & children after a client consultation.
